sorry i have to disagree with this. the only reason a character shouldn't be working their way to a title shot is if they have been sidetracked, ie grudge matches, ie jeff hardy going after matt hardy kind of thing.
If you're a wrestler and not wrestling towards the title, or for payback etc, whats the point?.... unless you're a heel trying to disrupt the faces chances |

That was my problem when Haste lost the title, Bobby cheated and beat him half to death to become champ and then Haste apparently went "oh well, I wonder what Kyle's up to" and didn't even try and get a rematch (besides that qualifying match with Mikey) _________________

Has everyone forgotten its just wrestling.......its not Lost or 24 where its written by professional writers..........people are saying that characters haven't progressed for a while, someone tell me how the Undertaken has progressed in the last 5 years apart from introducing a MMA type finisher. Cena is still the same character he was since he started, theres nothing new or fresh about him...............most wrestlers don't change, sure they get put in story lines but thats about it with the exception of a few. I mean Flairs character was pretty much the same for the last 20 years.
And comedy in wrestling.........its been around for years.........some could say Flairs corner flip in the corner is comedy or even his rocket launcher spot and yet I haven't read any of you complaining about that.
Anyway good on EPW for getting 340 to the Roadshow which shows they must be doing something right

Yeah, yeah. Nobody's allowed to not like anything.
I found Undertaker boring for about 10 years. Cena's changed completely since he started, it's one of the reasons he's getting backlash.
Last I checked Flair wasn't at the house show. _________________

| Gee thanks Killswitch how very observant. Thought I might use some examples of comedy in wrestling...........but I obviously didn't know the ground rules that we were only aloud to use examples of those that were at the house show. I will remember that for next time I'm trying to support my points. |

It's not like we're just slagging the product, everyone here is obviously a fan of EPW. ITZ went out of his way to be as constructive as he could and seemed genuinely dissapointed by the night but it seems everytime anyone has a critisim of anything you show up to tell them they're wrong. _________________

I really have to agree with ITZ on many of the things he said...
My problem with the current product is a complete lack of interesting charachters and personalitys on the roster.
There is nobody with a gimmick anymore and everybody comes accross as a bland wrestler with a 2 part name and generic trunks.
Take Chris Vice for example, had a ridicilously over gimmick and a cool nickname and was over. He dropped the nickname, replaced the ridicilous fluro tights for bland trunks and within months had no direction and no charachter and the crowd couldnt care less...
Now it seems too many people on the roster are directionless and have no charachter whatsoever and lack of crowd noise during matches would prove that.
People want to see entertaining gimmicks and nicknames and thats why The Schmidtts and Big Vin (ridicilous gimmicks) get decent pops..
It sucks that even people as talented as Storm are now completely challenged in the personality department.
It really has just become like a wrestler a vs wrestler b type scenario. I'm no way insulting EPW, just giving my honest thoughts in ways that the show could improve. 2008 has honestly seemed like every fued was based on boring on up manship rivalrys in an Alpha male way.
Apart from Devlin/Coruvs was there even a proper reason for a fued in 2008? (excluding Bobbys title match fueds)
I really hope EPW can get back on track in 2009, the in ring wrestling has been superb over the last few years..but mix that with a more colourfull roster and you have a winning formula. |

It may be the case that - as you suggest - I'm just asking too much from wrestling itself. If that's the case, then I'm a little disillusioned. I feel that wrestling at its finest would - or should - award the audience a little credit as it pertains to logic and simulating a real-world, competitive environment. I turned to EPW for that in '06, when I felt that it was tragically scarce in mainstream wrestling.

That actually sounds quite opposite the conclusion I myself drew. My post was trying to suggest that the competitive wrestling has suffered from the cartoonish characters and comedy.
I figure I've said my peace now, and will probably leave it at that. I'd hope anybody who was interested in the constructive criticism has taken it in without feeling - understandably, to an extent - defensive. I don't like speaking 'out of kayfabe' to such an extent... I feel dirty. I'd much rather discussion about which dream matches the fans are waiting for, which wrestler in a match the fans will support, or favourite EPW moves. _________________

Dude, smoke a little less pot! ITZ wants ROH and you seem to want Toryumon. They are like chalk and cheese. EPW is neither.
I think between the two of you, you've proven that you cant please everyone all the time. |
