Re-Awakening autopsy Last night was a fantastic wrestling show for any company, the set up was more professional than big indie feds (RoH, FIP, etc) and the matches were world class. Re-Awakening had 4 or 5 main event quality matches each one different and awesome in their own way, despite the fact chants carried really badly around the building the crowd stayed loud and intense all night.
In fact the night was so good, each match pretty much wiped out my memory of the one that came before (even more reason to buy the DVD)
Team Vice vs. Team Vigara
A good opener despite some botched spots, the guys put heaps of energy into the match and it gave everyone (except Rusty) a chance to have their moment in front of the big crowd. The doomsday blockbuster looked great.
Azazal (w/ new boots) vs. Davis Storm
These guys turned up the intensity, the match was stiff and pretty Japanese based (a theme for the night) with the finishers doing nothing until someone busted out the super finisher (that looked like it KILLED Azazal)
Brat Pack vs. The EU
The Union are ALWAYS fun to watch and this was no exception, lots of fun spots and gimmicks mixed with a DX-style reunion (although this one was actually entertaining).
Devlin Reeves vs. Brock Freeman
Two very different styles worked together really well, both guys got their offence in and it it was anyone's game up until Brock started to get ahead and Psychofett canned him to give Devlin the win.
Jag vs. Havok
Strong Style~! just a brutal match, these guys stiffed the hell out of each other and the ending left it open enough for a rematch at EPW-A's first show. I just hope we haven't seen the last of these guys.
Mikey vs. Shane Haste
mikey is really a world class talent, in the opening 10 minutes of this match he made Shane look like a million bucks. After the match proper started they had a balanced and suprisingly low on spots matchup. Mikey bled BUCKETS and passed the torch as his sendoff while Shane came out with the big win he's been looking for to cap off his year and gained some momentum he can use to challenge for the title next year.
Richter vs Brad West
Fun little match to reset the crowd after Mikey and Shane, I'm hoping the Burbank and West feud leads to a match in the new year.
Bobby vs. Grimace
I was really worried the crowd would be too worn out to get into this match but these guys would've got a reaction out of the dead with the match they put on. Multiple finishers, wild brawling, a crazy table spot and great wrestling. If Bobby's headed back to the US it leaves Shane to take the belt from Jimmy but I'm hoping for an elimination tag match (or cage?) in January to kick off the year.
Just a balls out solid show from top to bottom, congratulations to everyone involved. See you all next year.

agreed.
There were a few botched spots here and there and I was feeling a little tired, or worn out as you put it, just before the break and some of the second part matches. I noted the crowd were quiet too much, but as you say the chanting didn't carry so well. I was thinking just after Bobby did his dive off the wall how much the ringside area looked like an ROH event, with all the chairs strewn around and people moving around. Except we had lots more people than they.
All in all a solid event.

Last night was awesome, the only thing wrong was that I think a lot of people were expecting a break before Jag/Havok instead of after. Everyone seemed a bit tired and by this point needed the break to get back into it and Jag/Havok didn't end up getting the cheers they deserved.
/usr/epw- 11-05-2006
I thought they would break it when they did because that seems to happen every time, but a 4 & 4 split would have been better because of the matches.
Speaking of Jag/Havok, I kept looking at Havok at the end looking for signs of life because he didn't move. With the ref looking to the announce table and into the back area, one could almost think he died or was in serious danger of doing so.
It WAS a great, tough match.
Homicide- 11-05-2006
If anyone died it was Azazal. That Rolling Storm looked incredibly lethal.
Grimace impressed me last night. Kudos to him and Bobby for putting on the best match i've seen.
The lack of chants was disappointing.
\"check their visas\"
\"sucked in Killswitch\"
\"grriiimmmmaacceee\"
\"buuuulllshiiiit\"
\"holy shit!\"
\"storm is a wanker\"
They're the only chants that stood out I think.

I think you guys are confusing Baconfudge and me.
Baconfudge- 11-05-2006
I'm the good looking one.
The Vision- 11-05-2006
is killswitch the one with the short hair and baconfudge the one with the longer hair?

In the 2 and a half years ive been going to EPW i'd say this was by far my favourite show.
Great matches, Brat Pack reunion ohhh yeah.
And we didnt get kicked out!
SurfingBozo- 11-05-2006
I agree with Woodsworth
I've been going since Evolution 04 and that was my favourite show for sure.
Here's to the next 5 years!
bang3r- 11-05-2006
ive been going since the first evolution and this show is definatly up there, but the main event from ra03 still hasnt been topped in my opinion :)

Ha ha - I started the sucked in Killswitch chant and only 2 of us were doing it.
Goes to show you don't need heaps and heaps of people to get a chant heard - just gotta pick your times.
Dirty Harry- 11-07-2006
Nah, we were just practically sitting right next to you.
Homicide- 11-08-2006
Yes, and I joined in!
So make that THREE people doing it.

looking at the line up of matches i knew this would be a sweet event, only one match really scared me though
jag vs. havok
i know this match had a pretty good build up to it it's just too bad that havok can't wrestle to save his life.I couldn't help but think it was safer to let jag face anella. Jag is a proffessional, it's the only way to describe him, he's the best australian wrestling has to offer and his character matches it perfectly. Havok is a useless angry skinhead. let me take you back a couple of years to survival of the fit-*test*-('"), jag vs. storm, a freakin sweet match (best in epw's history) which closed a whole series of sweet matches the two had against eachother. Boiling point, havok vs. storm, storm tried his heart out to make the match entertaining, but \"bruce\" havok mills seemed determined to make it as boring as possible. if you remember the crowd reaction to that match you might say he succeeded. RA05, jag vs. mikey in a 2 out of 3 falls match, another awesome match from jag (my personal vote for best match), the crowd atmosphere was intense and the wrestling skill was insanely good, they also had a couple of other matches that got the crowd right into it at evolution and others leading up to RA. stand and deliver, havok vs. mikey, everyone that was there saw that disgraceful display he tried to pull out of mikey. we were all in tears that of all the people he couldve dropped the title to it was that washed up useless selfish wannabe, he's the most unconvincing face i've ever seen and he's been riding on jag's coattails for too long and it has to stop.
I couldn't have hoped for a better finish to that match, jag knocked him out cold and stopped him right in his tracks. It had to take jag to finally drag a decent match out of havok, and personally i hope he stays in adelaide, we certainly won't miss him, we should swap him for slater, or someone else decent.
