quiet crowds -
You know im gonna get flamed for this, but i dont care I had a thought. The EPW crowd seems to be a bit stagnant at the moment. That is, its not really growing in attendance numbers. So i started to think, why are so many people coming to a show or two, then disappearing not to return Why are people hesitant to join in with "the spirit squad" See the last few shows have had some of the loudest chants i've heard (baring ReAwakening and Evolution shows of past) so why then are people complaining that the crowd is quiet I'll tell u why. 1- A high proportion of the audience that get drawn into chanting is the kids and teenage crowd. Not all, cos obviously there's a heap of adults that get into chanting as well. But the two groups have different ways in which they chant. Allow me to elaborate The kids/teenagers get drawn into the chants like "princess" directed to Devlin "Carnie" "Psychofett" "G.S.T" "Rupert" and other name chants "woo woo" sound chants like Chris Vice uses and other random bits of humor like "its your birthday" These chants may prove to be a bit generic for the older fans.... but they'll still join it The Older fans tend to enjoy the slightly more adult orientated chants "Azazal's a wanker" "Holy Shit" "You fat bastard"... that sort of thing but they too enjoy the random things such as "rash-ee" "singing a verse of tainted love" The kids/teenagers tend to join in and parents allow it because its in good context, and they themselves are propably caught chanting it too. Itd be hypocritical to stop the younger ones chanting it. Unfortunatly The loudest individual fans, tend to be the ones making the transition from teenagers/adult who have no comprehension of what is apropriate, or what is generally seen on wrestling forums such as these, the overly critical smark, who thinks everything could be done better. These are the people that boo the biggest baby faces, they cheer the biggest heel.... basically they try meddling because they think they're cooler than everyone else They make awesome chants like "devlin sucks donkey dick" "fuck him up *insert every second wrestlers name here*" or my favourite (not) a "you f#$ked up" chant at every slight minute thing that didnt quite look right" Any excuse to swear, any excuse to be anti everything. The problem is.... an a lot of the other two fan groups get turned away and stop coming to shows. Parents dont want their kids hearing that kind of thing, so they stop bringing them. The older fans are simply more mature than than, and dont come back because this third fan group makes the whole experience seem juvenile. What happened to the good old creative chants "Your going home in the back of an ambulance" "Go back home to South Australia" towards Jag "Lets go psycho, Lets go" So instead of being quiet and letting the group 3 chanters be heard, why not come up with some good chants to drown out the crap ones Here's a chant i wanna hear. The next time some group 3 trys to start a stupid misplaced chant by themself (which i saw a few times last night ) cut them of with "One man chant, One man chant" If u fans dont shoot them down... who will? and pull

Hahaha, I know who thats aimed at, and I agree! Usually trying to think up abusive/'witty' chants to try put the spotlight on themselves instead of the wrestlers.

Here's a chant i wanna hear. The next time some dickhead trys to start a stupid misplaced chant by themself (which i saw a few times last night ) cut them of with "One man chant, One man chant" If u fans dont shoot them down... who will? Well said, how dare we have fun and try to get the crowd into a match rather than sitting on their hands? Hahaha, I know who thats aimed at, and I agree! Usually trying to think up abusive/'witty' chants to try put the spotlight on themselves instead of the wrestlers. so you'd rather just have the crowd clap and nothing else?

Fans are entitled to cheer whoever they want. I am going to cheer a wrestler I like whether their a heel or face.

this is a regular, pointless, circular argument. people are gonna do what they're gonna do. the end.

killswitch- 04-23-2006

how are chants like "you're going home in the back of an Ambulence" creative? and why is starting some lame "one man chant" chant better than something fun like "he's got ugg boots"? I would actually be interested to see if the wrestlers prefer silence to chants.

Captain- 04-23-2006

how about sitting down wathing the match, and throw in a few "ooh's" and "ahh's" when they do something impressive, that way the wrestlers get appreciated yet gives them an incentive, and perents wont get offended.

killswitch- 04-23-2006

perents? Seeing at least one wrestler per show says fuck I don't think the world will end if a child hears the word. I'm going to chant no matter what, if the alternative is the dead silence that greeted the Sane/Richter match.

This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever read. Seriously...someone has WAY too much time on their hands if they need to over analyse the behaviour of the crowd. In the past few shows I have probably introduced over 30 people to EPW and every time their behaviour is much the same. In their first show, they are fairly quiet, taking it all in, learning who is a heel, who is a face, who is a wanker etc etc. By their 2nd show, they are a bit louder, get into the characters more etc, feel more confortable joining in a chant or hurling a bit of abuse at someone. Not to mention that some people are by nature extroverts, some are introverts. Criticising the behaviour of the crowd is good way Chad to make sure first timers don't come back!!!! If you are going to take chants and the "Spirit Squad" so seriously (or the apparent lack there of), maybe you need to start an audition process for EPW fans and then only the "worthy" are allowed to attend the shows. I've been coming to EPW shows for almost 2 years now and it has only been the last 6-9 months that I have starting joining in chants or making signs. Give people a break Chad.

Spirit Squad unite!

you also have to remember that this venue is not even a year old as far as epw goes where as the showgrounds had been around for like three years so there were alot more permanant fans... with EPW getting crowds of about 400 you gotta remember that only about 200 of them are from the showgrounds days therefore meaning that the other 200 are constantly changing so like princess sorta said the other 200 or so are just getting adjusted to the epw enviroment and that should take a couple of events because the epw enviroment is vastly different to a live wwe enviroment as anyone who went to any of the wwe shows in perth would recognise that.

this is a regular, pointless, circular argument. people are gonna do what they're gonna do. the end. Thought I'd just quote this, in case anyone missed it the first time.
