dickhead autopsy After running around trying to get ahold of tickets because Lukey can't be trusted to hold them for people we finally made it.
Big turnout last night, which was great to see. Looks like a lot of first timer's at Re-Awakening liked what they saw.
The new entrance is really impressive too, it's cool that EPW basically have a bigger setup than the big indie feds in the US.
A lot of the guys seemed a bit off, because of the heat maybe? and Mikey DOES rule the world, his stuff during the main event was just brilliant.
Kiel E. vs. Nate 'sexy party' Dooley
Upset finish with a Forefather taking the pin, after some decent back and forth action. Looks like we might be seeing a return of Awesome Inc. since know the Forefathers have a problem with both Kiel and Shane.
E.U. vs. CJL, Del Santo and Richter
The Union are always a highlight and Richter was used really well. Was it language problems that stopped the face team from working together? Did anyone hear what Johnny was saying after the match?
West vs. Street
Solid match from these guys, although the 'sexy crack' tanktops were a bit odd. The West vs. Burbank feud continues, unless Gentleman Jack is actually going to have a match it's hard to tell where they'll go with it.
Payne vs. Jamie
The closing 5 minutes of this match ruled but I think the lack of commentary hurt it a lot and Jurah's another one of the guys that the crowd really has trouble getting behind, one of the better matches of the night and it's a shame it didn't get a bigger reaction.
AZ vs. Vice
BELT TO THE FACE! Vice is a crazy person. Obviously not a whole match but these guys work together so well by now, next month should be awesome.
Block vs. Evans
Evans played his role well, getting some good hope spots but it was really just an extended squash and the crowd didn't know Rusty well enough to support him. Be interesting to see who Psycho feuds with now, maybe Carnage?
Mikey vs. Storm vs. Devlin vs. Haste
I was worried they wouldn't be able to top 'Sudden Impact' as far as multi-man matches go, instead we got a more well-rounded and less spotty but BRILLIANT match. Storm looked like a badass, Mikey looked like a superstar, Haste looked like an underdog and Devlin was the loner out for himself.
After a fairly uneven night that was the main event they needed, I'll be buying the DVD for that match alone. Stiff as hell chops, hilarious stuff from Mikey, crazy bumps from Shane, everything looked perfect.
Interesting that that Jimmy seems to be looking past Reeves and to Haste as his biggest threat but now Devlin's got the title shot in a match that's sure to be brutal since they're the two stiffest guys in the company.
*Shaky start to the year for the most part but I think most on the fence fans will only remember the main event anyway.
No commentary hurt the night a lot (especially during the Jurah/Payne and West/Street matches) because they couldn't talk the crowd through it, keep them intrested and start cheers when they needed to but the guy we brought along said he wants to come back next month so maybe it's just we're so used to hearing them.
SurfingBozo- 01-20-2007
I would first like to say that I thought Hot Summers Night was an amazing way to start off the year.
In regards to commentary hurting 2 matches, I couldn't disagree more. There are ALWAYS, at ever single show, a match or two that the crowd dont make noise for. The lack of commentary had no impact on the crowd noise. That's the first clear "JAMIE JURAH" chant I've ever heard.... If anything, the crowd where louder than usual, especially in the main.
WoW! Awesome night! How did they get those balls to float all night?!
Thoth- 01-20-2007
How can it be Lukey's fault that you had to run around and get tickets yesterday when, for the last month and a half, all you've done is sit on your fat ass and talked shit on the message board. You had plenty of time to get out of that chair of yours, walked through your front door and into the outside world where you could've purchased your tickets. Serves you right for leaving it to the last minute.
Damn smark ... thinks the whole world revolves around you. Why anything would want to gravitate towards you is beyond my comprehension.
As for my thoughts of the show ....
I thought it was a really solid show. I'm finding it difficult to choose the worst match of the night and the best match of the night. Hot Summer's Night would have to be one of, if not the best, "First Show Of The Year".
The crowd was massive. I had just managed to find a seat when they started pulling back the net that seperates the 2 courts - first time I've seen that happen.
As for the lack of commentry, I thought it was a good move. I think too many people int he crowd at previous shows were getting lazy in terms of cheering etc. I could be mistaken, but I don't think there was a single moment of silence throughout the whole night. It took a little getting used to, but I'm all for it.
Sweet ... NWA are having a show here in November. Can't wait for that.

Thanks Fergie, love your work. I was mostly joking about the Lukey thing but whatever.
in training- 01-20-2007
Yes the commentary could of really helped out in those opening two matches.
Killswitch, your a lucky man Psychofett was talking about you, very nice.
MrAshWoodsworth- 01-20-2007
Haha the Psychofett "shoot" at the end of his promo was surprising but funny. Kinda outta nowhere but still was amusing for it too happen.
Maybe the reason there was a Jamie Jurah chant was just because the crowd were way more vocal due to no commentary.
Jurah is way more a natural heel anyway, mid 04-early 05 he was on fire .
I think the crowd were way louder than usual and that could have something to do with there being no commentary.
Decent show, the undercard wasn't the best i've seen but the main event was very enjoyable.
I'm really enjoying Brad West these days, great on the mic and great in the ring.
Wierd that there was no Freeman, Justin Sane, Tommy Cartel, Jay Taylor, Xerious Blade and Bobby Marshall. I would've thought they couldve mentioned Marshall or something or put him in some match for the next event.
A Bobby Vs Mikey fued would be nice
Awesome that Devlin got the win, i was expecting Haste to be the winner of that one.
Hmm Devlin Vs Payne next month, definately gonna bring a cool Devlin sign.

I was waiting for freeman to appear and start a freeman/psychofett feud.
I would of liked to see one or two extra matches with either Freeman, Sane, Cartel, Taylor, BBB, FN, Azazal or Jag.
Been a fan of Devlin for a while his antics against Freeman at Re Awakening I will put the blame on Psychofett. Definitely an anti-Jimmy or a pro-devlin sign next event.
Where did you get the Grimace thing? We should all get them. I laughed every time I saw it.
Serial Thriller- 01-21-2007
Not having commentators sucked. Whatever their motives where, i still think it's bullshit.
And zomg, Ferguson nearly spat on me. I'll never wash again.

Get stuffed!
The croud was the loudest it's ever been. And I think it was because we weren't all sitting there trying to listen to Burbank and Lukey's comentary. In addition I don't think it really took anything away from the matches themselves either. I find if you try paying attention to the matches, like actually watch them, it's a lot more interesting. Just something to keep in mind for the next show?
Oh and it was cool to walk in there late and find myself having to sit like ten rows back from the ring. Obvioulsy I would have liked to be closer, but it was cool to see EPW draw that many people. That must have been EPW's biggest non-re-awakening croud ever right? Big congratulations.
I thought the show was really good too. Every body seemed to get great reactions from the croud (or great negative reactions depending on who).
Just a solid show, yeah, really great matches I thought.
Shane Haste, what a dude! And Devlin's starting to grow on me a fair bit. It's funny to think how much harder Storm is now compared to this time last year. What a transformation.
And Mikey... Thats all thats required!
So in closing all round great show, nice loud croud, loved the no comentary.

Clearly the issue of having commentary is going to divide people but I don't think abusing other forum users for having an opinion is going to serve any good purpose.
That said, I completely agree with Serial Thriller but will post my rant about this in the commentary thread.

Killswitch, Your a DICKHEAD!"
PHRANKIE- 01-22-2007
i liked most things about the show
but i don't think chris vice was ready for is new look, he needed to wait a show or two and beat az cleanly or accomplish something big before evolving, and a haircut would go a long way with that guy too.
jack burbank is a biased scumbag and should be removed for his unfair actions, brad got screwed and i'm not happy.
kiel e lectrifying was clearly not electrifying at all, maybe cos hes been out of action for so long, or maybe cos half the crowd hadnt seen him before, or maybe he just needs to be carried by haste, either way he just seemed a little sloppy.
I cant wait to see the new ferguson block in proper action against a tough opponent, hopefully storm, that'll push him to the limit.
mikey is a freakin superstar and i cant wait till he beats me up at the training camp.
the don is the fas-*test*-('") rising star in the company and has a sweet singles career in his future.
davis and mikey working together was so much fun to watch they were a great team.
but my highlight of the match was showing mikey my 'mikey world order' t-shirt and getting a superman pose aimed right at me  (still swooning)
p.s. no commentary is cool
