Access 31 financial problems
"Access 31 in danger of folding, says boss 11th June 2008, 9:00 WST Perth community television station, Access 31, needed at least $500,000 within weeks to avoid being forced into liquidation as the company struggled to switch to digital technology, chief executive Andrew Brine said yesterday. The company was expected to be put into liquidation at a special meeting of members on June 27 because the rapid rise in television viewers buying digital sets — many of which could not get Access 31’s analogue signal — had eroded audiences to the point where the business was not sustainable, Mr Brine said." They have a few weeks to get the funds together so who knows.

I nominate Bobby's valet to run a car wash.

what YOU can do.
i dont post on these message boards often but this is a serious subject affecting not only epw on television but also the hundreds of volunteers and workers who also work at the station. As a result Access 31 has been distributing a petition to sign to let the senator for broadband and communications know that perth still want local community television. so i'll appeal to everyone who is a fan or who is involved with epw in any sort of way to sign the online petition and show the aft cats that we still want original local programming, the link to the online petition is: http://www.gopetition.com.au/petitions/help-access31-go-digital.html? please if everyone can sign this petition and hand it on via e-mails to anyone you know it would certainly be a big help to everyone involved. Also if you could take five minutes to write why you would like to see 31 continue and what community tv means to you (EG, no more community no more monday night wrestling which im sure would be motivation enough (hopefully) to take out the time and save this station.) thanks for everyone who signs. and stay in school kids! school is cool! -Chris J Lazareth

Maybe Sweet & Sour should hold a bake sale

FallenInsanity- 06-12-2008

The link above gave a "404 Error - page not found" result http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/help-access31-go-digital.html <- the direct link I've signed. 325 signatures so far. Hopefully we can see many more names on there too!

MrAshWoodsworth- 06-12-2008

NOOO!! How will Weedsworth and Bluntfield get on tv now??? I'll totally sign it because no EPW on tv would be upsetting...not to mention Sweet And Sour *cough*

/usr/epw- 06-12-2008

I have signed it

Signiature number 405, fight the power!

For those posting comments in there, try to write about the benefits of the station overall, not just EPW. The Government may not care about wrestling particularly but will likely give more credit to "community station" and "good training and experience in the media" and so on. Thanks to CJL for the link too.

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/access-31-staff-rally-for-bailout-20080807-3rgu.html 'Access 31 staff rally for bail-out * Daile Pepper * August 7, 2008 - 10:19AM Access 31 needs a minimum of $1.3 million to stay on air until the Federal Government comes through with a proposed rescue package next year. The station closed yesterday after 11 years, and follows the resignation of its CEO last week, and has been brought about by financial difficulties. "$1.3 million would cover us to keep it operating in analogue until the funds to move us into simulcast broadcasting could be provided by the Federal Government," said board member Phillip Skelton. "Despite encouraging words from the Federal Government they have not provided any funds that would enable Access 31 to go digital. "And Lotterywest verbally indicated they would inject $250,000, but then they indicated they would not be putting anything in." '
